He was a Researcher at the Institute of Radiology, University of Palermo. He directed the UOS of “Minimally Invasive Spinal Interventional Surgery” of the AOE “Cannizzaro” of Catania. He is Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Radiology of the University of Palermo. He is Director of the Functional Unit of Mini-Invasive Spinal Interventional Surgery at the Mediterranean Oncology Institute and IOM Foundation. He holds the European Diploma of the three-year “European Course in Neuroradiology.” He has earned 16 international and national awards for scientific merit. He has been awarded three times for the best scientific paper of the ‘year by the American Society of Spinal Radiology ASSR (2007, 2009, 2012). He organized as co-chair of the 8th ESNR Diagnostic and Interventional Spine Course in Catania, Catania, Italy, June 28-July 1, 2017. He organized as Chairman the International Multidisciplinary Congress “Sicily Spine 2015”, Catania October 29-31, 2015. He organized as Director the following meetings: “Course on Neuroradiology” (Palermo, November 8-10 1994), “Seminars on Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology”(Palermo, May 26-28 1997), “Advanced MRI”(Caltanissetta, June 19-20 1998), “1st Italian Course on Spinal Interventional Neuroradiology” (Catania, June 21-22, 2002), “Italian Course of the Haed & Neck Radiological Society” (Catania 12-13 December 2003), “Minimal Invasive Spine Surgery” (Palermo, june 23-24, 2017). Currently, Dr. Luigi Manfrè is Director of the Minimal Invasive Spine Surgery Unit of the Mediterranean Oncology Institute-IOM. He is Chairperson for Spine of the European Society of Neuroradiology, as Executive Committee of the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR), with specific delegation for the spine. He is a member of the Faculty of the European School of Neuroradiology (ESONR).
