Oxygen-Ozone therapy,
Interventional with intradiscal technique

It represents the technique least known to patients although it is the most represented in the world of scientific literature. More than 80,000 patients treated with this technique over the past 10 years have been described, and the results obtained were recently the subject of a so-called meta-analysis, that is, a study comparing many studies with each other, which described the results with two simple words: “very impressive!” – very impressive! – the results obtained, especially in some herniative or protrusive types, are similar to surgery, unlike the side effects, which are significantly less in both number and quality.

It finds a typical indication in all forms of protrusion (i.e., with intact fibrous annulus) with symptoms that do not respond to less invasive treatments. However, there are no absolute contraindications to the treatment of contained hernias.

The patient does not require anesthesia or sedation. Through an X-ray guide (brightness amplifier or CT scan), a needle is inserted into the deformed disc and a small amount of Oxygen-Ozone is administered that can result in decompression of the disc through a dehydration process. At the end of the treatment in some centers, an intraforaminal administration of ozone follows as the needle comes out; in other centers, cortisone is administered instead to promote, in one case as in the other, the anti-inflammatory process at the nerve, a process that underlies the resolution of pain from herniated or protruding discs.

The resolution rate of the painful picture reaches 85% positive results.
