Specialist in Neurology
Prof. Massimiliano Filosto received his medical degree from the University of Catania and his specialization in Neurology and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Verona. After a period of research in the USA, at Columbia University in New York, he returned to Italy and was head of the Center for the Study of Neuromuscular Diseases of the U.O. Neurology of the ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia.
Today he is Associate Professor of Neurology at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences at the University of Brescia and Clinical Director of the NeMO-Brescia Clinical Center, a highly specialized center for the study and treatment of neuromuscular diseases.
Prof. Filosto is Regional Coordinator of the Italian Association of Myology (AIM) for the Lombardy macro-region and a member of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), within which he is a member of the “Scientific Panels” dedicated to muscle diseases, peripheral neuropathies, motor neuron disease and neurogenetics. He is, in addition, a member of the Clinical Neurogenetics and Rare Diseases Study Group and the Motor Neuron Disease Study Group of the Italian Society of Neurology and the Italian Association for the Study of the Peripheral Nervous System (ASNP). He is a member of the National Medical-Scientific Committee of the Italian Union Fighting Muscular Dystrophy (UILDM) as Vice President with responsibility for Scientific Responsibility of the Association’s official national journal (DM), the National Medical-Scientific Committee of the Italian Association of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (AISLA) and the National Medical-Scientific Committee of MITOCON Onlus – Mitochondrial Diseases.
